The Alternative Collection was a range of promotional model vehicles primarily based on the Matchbox Models of Yesteryear castings. Each model was issued as a limited edition and came with a certificate of authenticity plus some information on the subject of the model. The models were repackaged in their original manufacturer's packaging with only the addition of an end-tab sticker denoting the item belongs to "The Alternative Collection by Creaks of Camberley".
The business was run by Eric Creak. Eric specialised in converting Matchbox models, mainly models of yesteryear, and called the series "The Alternative Collection" with some 61 items available in 1990. He also started to scratch build models and called this his "Peel Collection". There were about 15 models made in this latter series, starting with designation "PC1" which was a mounted policeman on his horse. In addition the Company produced at least one tin plate ‘0’ Gauge railway goods van for Jacob’s Cream Crackers based on a Paya of Spain vehicle.
Creaks may ultimately have produced over 160 different models for the "Alternative Collection" plus additional promotional models. The business came to an end with the takeover of Matchbox by a US based doll manufacturer.
